(I’m the one with the smaller ears).

I joined Mirai Dojo as a complete beginner 3 years ago, when I was 47. I checked out one or two other clubs first but I settled with this one because I just had a sense that this was a really good quality place to learn. The instructors (‘Sensei’) are incredibly experienced and knowledgeable, and everyone in the club is really supportive, whatever level you are at. I also like that no-one has a big ego!

Karate is pretty different from the types of things I’ve done in the past. I think I was looking for a new kind of challenge. I’m learning at my own pace and not putting any pressure on myself. I feel I’ve already come a long way since I started, and I’m getting a lot from it. It’s a good experience, and I’m quite surprised at what I’m able to do now.

I would say this club is great at helping you to develop whatever age, shape or size you are. Why not come along and give it a try!

"I'm Guy, no previous martial art experience, I joined the club as a beginner at the start of 2020 and absolutely love it. I'm no Spring chicken but was looking for a new challenge that would exercise body and mind. I found it.  I have a very sedentary job and karate is excercising my core muscles in a way that a regular gym workout or 10k won't do.  In addition to this I feel I'm getting huge benefit from the coordination and memory work required to learn the various kata and kumite."
